Following is a review of the BGHS policy regarding school activities when adverse weather affects the school schedule:
Rationale: When weather conditions are too threatening to permit the usual schedule of classes, it is not consistent to permit students to be in the building for activities.
Parents are reminded to listen to the following stations for announcements of early dismissals in bad weather: KLGA AM/FM (1600/92.7); KIMT-TV, Channel 3, Mason City; KICD-AM/FM (1240/107.7 and 104.9) Spencer, KCCI-TV, Channel 8, Des Moines, KEYC-TV, Channel 12, Mankato, KJYL, Blue Earth, KILR, Estherville, WHO-TV, Channel 13, Des Moines
College planning financial aid meeting for senior and junior parents will be at BGHS on December 3 at 7:00pm. A representative from the College Planning Center of Des Moines will present.
Seniors and parents should be scheduling visits to colleges at this time and making applications if they have not yet done so.
If any parent of seniors will not be able to make our financial aid night, we will have extra materials available in the counseling office. Please stop and pick them up at your convenience.
FAFSAs (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will be available soon for senior parents. This is the federal form to apply for financial aid for college. They may be filed any time after January 1st. It is also a good idea to make your tax appointment now for early February - many schools have priority deadlines of February 15 - March 1 when filing FAFSAs.
FAFSAs can be filed electronically on the web from home or here at BGHS. We would be more than happy to assist you. Please call for a scheduled time so that we do not have too many parents at the same time.
Make your holiday an easy one--save gas and time by ordering gift cards through us. You will also earn money towaerds tuition with the percentage that each business gives. Involve your family and friends to boost your money saved for tuition.
We have added three new businesses: Best Buffet at 10%, Cinco de Mayo at 10%, and K&H Co-Op (gas, deli, convenience) at 3% (use the gift cards at Algona, Burt, Buffalo Center, Mason City, and Thornton).
We are pleased with the success of the scrip program. Since starting we have purchased more than $3,500,000 in gift cards. Those businesses have given a tuition return of more than $165,000 to be used to help pay tuition. Ninety percent of that money is from our local businesses. Keep up the good work ordering gift cards to pay for your everyday expenses.
