The following scholarships are now available:

                Women’s Federation Club scholarship

                MaxYield scholarship

                Kossuth Soil and Water scholarship

                Mediacom scholarship

                Stateline scholarship

                Best Buy scholarship

                Iowa Soybean scholarship

Attention parents of college-bound seniors: FAFSAs (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) should be filed as soon as possible. March 1 is the latest that I recommend filing in order to be on the high priority list of most institutions.

FAFSA forms are available in the BGHS counseling office. Also, electronic filing is available at BGHS through FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

If you need any assistance and want to set up a time to file electronically, please feel free to contact me at Bishop Garrigan, 295-3521, or at my home, 295-5139.

Juniors should  consider registering now for the April or June ACT test times. Registration forms may be picked up from my office. You may also register online at www.act.org. These two test dates are the recommended times for juniors to take ACT tests.

Over the next month, many of the local scholarship applications will be available, like Knights of Columbus, Rotary, Lions, etc. Remind your son/daughter to check weekly for new ones as they become available.

BGHS general scholarship applications will be given out in late March to all seniors. This application makes students eligible for all the alumni and memorial scholarships established through BGHS.

H&K Scholarships

Preparations are underway for the 2008-2009 H&K Scholarship application process. Applications will be mailed out mid-February for college students and will be available for this year’s graduating seniors at that time, also. They are due back mid-April. If you have a college student with a medical or ag-related major who has not been participating in the program, please call the office at 295-3521. We also welcome address change information.

Reminders

Normal office hours are 7:30 a.m. — 4 p.m. Parents who wish to phone in student absences after hours may call the Garrigan answering service at 295-3521 and leave a message.

  * If a student is going to be absent three days or more, please call or send a note to the office three days in advance. The student will be given a form for all his/her teachers to sign.

  * Also, students who become sick during the day should come to the office. The office staff will then contact the parents.

*Parents: on shortened school days or days when there are activities involving a large number of students, classes are still held and learning is still going on. It is important to have students in attendance.

  * When sending a note to excuse a student for being tardy or absent, please include the date and time.

*Occasionally, parents ask for students to be released during their lunch period. The lunch period is only 30 minutes long and students are expected to be back in the building in a timely fashion for their classes.

*All visitors to BGHS are asked to please check in at the office when entering the building.
