BISHOP GARRIGAN HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

June, 2007

BGHS admits students and hires staff without regard to race, national origin, gender, or disability.

Attention Class of 2008

Two billfold-size, color, head and shoulder graduation photos are needed for the yearbook and newspaper.  They will not be returned to the student.  These must be formal pictures in dress attire.  Informal pictures will not be used.  Students must follow the school policy:  boys may not wear earrings and must be clean shaven.  Photos must be delivered to Miss McCall by January 30, 3008.

HOMECOMING 2007

Homecoming 2007 will be October 14 - 19.  The newly elected student council has already been making plans for the event.  Royalty will be elected shortly after school starts in the fall.

Welcome, New Teachers

We welcome the following teachers to BGHS for the 2007 - 2008 school year:

Cross-Country Running Camp

Team camp for grades 7 - 12 will be at BGHS south (gym) entrance Monday - Friday, July 16 - 20 and July 23 - 27, 7:30am - 9am.  No fees.

It is not necessary to be at camp every day, but running is easier with friends.  Whatever your present skill level, our goal is to help you improve.  We will work around jobs, vacation, and other late-July commitments.  Call Coach Kohlhaas at home if you have any questions:  295-5786.

PHOTOS WANTED

We are always looking for photos for the BGHS website (garrigan.unlimitedweb.net).  We try to get photos of all school activities, but we are not always able to be at every event.  If you have photos to share, e-mail or send them to Mr. Burrow (burrowd@garrigan.pvt.k12.ia.us).  We can't use every photo, but we appreciate all that are submitted.

BISHOP GARRIGAN SCHOOLS MISSION STATEMENT

Bishop Garrigan Schools are dedicated to providing quality, value-centered Catholic education to young people of north central Iowa.  We seek to achieve a balance between academic excellence and Christian social conscience through a combination of intellectual preparation, physical development, belief in God, and service to our fellow human beings.

SCRIP Schedule for Summer

Scrip orders will be taken on the following Mondays through the summer:

Please plan ahead, especially with gift cards that you will be paying bills with.  Since we are not ordering every week, you might have to estimate the amount you need.

You may get generic "Bear Bucks" at BGHS only on Mondays and Thursdays during office hours, 9am - 1pm.

We will not be selling gift cards during the summer at ballgames.

Have your orders to L'Marie's, Sherree's Hallmark, or BGHS by noon on the Mondays we order.  Orders will be filled on Thursdays and returned to L'Marie's and Sheree's Hallmark that afternoon.  BGHS orders can be picked up during any office hours, beginning Friday of the week you ordered.

Remember:  Fido Can't Go to Games

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Girls Athletic Union have a rule that prohibits any pet (dogs, cats, etc.) from being on the premises for athletic activities.  The primary reason for this rule is a liability concern.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS

Summer office hours have begun.  The office is open from 9am to 1pm.  On August 1, the hours change to 8am to 4pm.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Congratulations to ...

... the girls track and field team for finishing tied for 29th at the state meet.  Running were the following:  Macy Fickbohm in the 100 meter dash finished 5th.  The 4x400 meter relay of Carrie Courtney, Maria Kohlhaas, Emily Behr, and Katrina Even finished 7th.  The distance medley of Macy Fickbohm, Emily Behr, Katrina Even, and Maria Kohlhaas finished 11th.  Maria Kohlhaas was 16th in the 800 meter run.  The sprint medley with Cindy Reding, Kelli Black, Macy Fickbohm, and Maria Kohlhaas finished 19th.

Macy Fickbohm set a new school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.79 in the prelims at the regional meet.  This breaks the old record of 12.89 set in 1990 by Denise Schmidt.

After checking the other records, we have learned that in 2006 the distance medley set a new school record with a time of 4:23.36 at the state meet.  Running on this relay were Kelly Schmidt, Kayla Reding, Emily Behr, and Maria Kohlhaas.  The old record was set in 1981 by Therese McGuire, Jenni Koppen, Sheila Casey, and Sheila Winkel.
