BGHS admits students and hires staff without regard to race, national origin, gender, or disability.
With the start of the school year, we would like to recommit ourselves to the Bishop Garrigan mission statement:
Bishop Garrigan Schools are dedicated to providing quality, value-centered Catholic education to the young people of north central Iowa. We seek to achieve a balance between academic excellence and Christian social conscience through a combination of intellectual preparation, physical development, belief in God, and service to our fellow human beings.
We look forward to a rewarding and blessed school year. Thank-you for entrusting your students to us.
Sales of the 2007 - 2008 calendars by students in grades 5 - 12 are underway. thank-you to the students, families, and staff at BGS for working to make the calendar sales a success. The proceeds from this project are used to upgrade and purchase buses and suburbans which are used by all Bishop Garrigan students.
Why buy a calendar? There are more than 300 cash prizes totaling over $15,000, with a one in seven chance to win--way better than the lottery. You also have a complete schedule of school events. The $25 purchase price is a donation. Buy a calendar today, and help ensure safe transportation for our pre-K through 12th grade students.
Thank-you to anyone who purchased a Garrigan calendar in the past. We welcome your participation again this year.
The 2007 yearbooks will arrive in September. They are full color. Students should checkt he list on the English hallway to see if they have already paid--their names are highlighted in pink. Students who have not purchased may reserve a copy with Miss McCall in Room 12 with the $40 payment.
The Diocesan Ministries Conference will be September 23 and 24 at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer. The theme is "The Eucharist: The Community and the Mission of the Church". Featured speakers are Frs. Godfrey Mullin and Dennis Robinson. There is no charge. Information is available at www.scdiocese.org . Register online at dmc07@scdiocese.org or call Judy Forrest, 712-233-7520.
Catholic College Day is at 10am on September 4 at BGHS. Parents are also invited to attend.
Juniors and seniors are encouraged to visit with the college representatives when they come to BGHS. Most reps come in the fall, and students can request a pass to see ones that they may be interested in. This gives them an opportunity to gather information and ask questions about the college.
Seniors and parents should begin visiting colleges at this time and making applications by December 1, if possible. Seniors are encouraged to apply online in the counseling office.
Students in grades 9 - 11 will begin taking ITEDs the last week of September and the first week of October. These tests are used to review curriculum and have become very important for state reports that deal with school improvement. As the time gets closer, please encourage your students to do their best.
Remember to give us you e-mail address, as this is just one more avenue of communication to keep you better informed as parents..

Bishop Garrigan High School has had an independent study gifted and talented program in place since 1993. Any students who feel they would qualify for this program and have a specific project they would like to work on that is not normally offered in the regular curriculum should see Mr. Burrow to discuss their options.
Bishop Garrigan will host our 17th annual quiz bowl tournament on Saturday, October 13. Again this year we expect to have the largest academic competition in Iowa, with between 300 and 400 students from all over the area. We need volunteers to make the day run smoothly. Workers are needed to serve as readers and judges in competition centers and to help in the office during the day. If you can help, please contact Mr. Burrow at Garrigan.
The Garrigan website is at http://garrigan.unlimitedweb.net and features lots of information and pictures of happenings at Garrrigan. The site is produced by students in the school's Specialized Technology Topics course. We welcome pictures submitted by parents and friends of the school. While not all of these can be used, we try to incorporate as many as we can into the website. You can e-mail pictures to webmaster David Burrow at burrowd@garrigan.pvt.k12.ia.us .
