Uniform List

 

Note:  All items are available at Diamond’s (for boys) or Minnowa Medical Supplies (for girls).  Employees at these establishments have lists of required/acceptable clothing and can assist you in fitting and ordering.

 

The uniform is worn throughout the year unless an exception is made on a specific occasion.

 

GIRLS:

         

Skirt (Gr. 5-12):  Skirt which has been in use at Bishop Garrigan High School for some                    years.  The skirt which was used for grades 5-8 has been discontinued, but may be worn             until it wears out.

 

Pants:  Becky or Becky Thatcher brand; elastic back in small sizes.

            All grades:  Navy, Khaki, and Black

 

Shorts (all grades):  Cuffed; inseam pocket; must be walking short length

            Navy only.      

 

BOYS:

 

Pants:  Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn brand; regular or athletic (more generous) cut

            Sizes available: slim, husky, student, man

            All grades:  Navy, Khaki, and Black

 

Shorts (all grades):  No cuff; must be walking short length

            Navy only

 

BOYS AND GIRLS:

 

Shirt   (all grades):  Knit; piquet (waffle) weave; long or short sleeves

            Shirt sleeve band may be gathered or straight

            White, Yellow, and Light Blue

 

Sweaters:     Cardigan, vest and long sleeve V-neck.

Colors:  navy, white, burgundy, and hunter green.

Coats, jackets, or other apparel designed for outdoor wear may not be worn in the    classroom.

 

Shoes:          Shoes are to be clean, neat and well kept.  They may include dress shoes, dress      boot style, tennis shoes, clogs, or dress sandals.  Sandals that are the flip-flop     variety are not allowed.  Socks must be worn at all times.


Dress In Academic Area

            Students are encouraged not to enter the academic areas of the building or the cafeteria during the regular school day when attired in gym clothes, athletic uniforms, cheerleading or danz squad uniforms.  This includes “quick trips” to the office for messages or to lockers for forgotten items.

 

School Activities:  Dress and grooming here is a personal matter and should equal the occasion.  Extremes are not acceptable and will not be allowed.  The manner in which a person dresses and acts always reflects on the school.  Boys are to be clean-shaven.  Sensible and conventional haircuts are in order.  Boys hair is to be off the collar with ears showing.  Unacceptable body piercing include earrings for boys.  Also unacceptable for both boys and girls are pierced eyebrows, lips, tongue, nose, etc.

 

Dress Up Days:  There will be designated dress-up days during the school day for all students.  The day will be chosen in conjunction with a special event or activity (example-school liturgy).  Dressing up is optional for the students.  Students dressing up must follow the guidelines for dress-up days.  Those students choosing not to dress up must be in uniform.

 

Dress-up day Guidelines:

Girls:

            -dress skirt and top or dress (slacks or pants)

            -skirt must be to the knee or below

            -NO sleeveless dresses or blouses

            -neckline must be of modest cut

            -NO sheer, clingy, or denim fabrics

            -blouses must be tucked-in

            -hose or socks must be worn

 

Boys:

            -collared dress shirt must be worn

            -tie/sweater, OR tie/dress jacket combination will be worn

             (in warm weather jackets or sweaters may be removed).

 

            Activity uniform tops may be worn during school hours with the regular school uniform as approved by the Principal.

 

 

Jeans Days:  On designated days the student body may wear jeans, T-shirts, and sweatshirts.  Shirts that have inappropriate sayings, and exhibit drug or sex slogans are not allowed.  The usual fee for a jeans day is $1.
