SETON HOME

Dear Parents,

As we come again to the threshold of Lent, we are looking at ways to encourage our young people to take seriously the admonition to “repent”, to change what is in our lives that keeps us from being the followers of Jesus that He asks us to be.

Because symbolism plays such a large part in our response to God’s call, we try to incorporate symbols in our décor and in the activities we do with the students and staff.  It is our hope that the mood of Lent will be for all of us one of hope and striving for spiritual improvement.

KINDERGARTEN/PREP/PRESCHOOL/DEN

2008-2009

The office is in the process of collecting names of prospective students for Early Childhood and Kindergarten for next year.  We only have names of children baptized in  the five parishes.  If you know of child(ren) who were baptized in another parish or who have moved into our communities, please call the office to have a packet sent to them.  We have found the names of several children who were baptized in our  parishes omitted from the parish lists.

SECURITY SYSTEM UPDATE

The finishing touches are being put on the wiring for the security system, and the glitches as far as we can tell at this point are being worked out.  That’s not to say that when the system is up and running there won’t be unforeseen challenges.  The next step will be to program the keys and train the personnel from the school and the parish.

As we look at the system, what that will probably mean for parents/visitors is that entry may only be gained by the North door after 8:30 am.  All adults will sign in at the office.

Rochleau Center Changes:  With the change to the security system,  it is very possible and probable that there may be changes in gym usage before/after school and weekends along with non-school sponsored  activities for both our students and the community.  Please make note of this.  There will be more information coming as policies are worked through.

DID YOU MOVE OR CHANGE PHONE NUMBERS?

If you change jobs, change cell phones, move, etc., please let the office know as soon as you are able.  We have had times when students have been sick and have been unable to reach parents because of job changes, new phones, etc.  It is important for your children that our files are kept up to date.

SPEAKING AND LISTENING “STARS ARE BORN”

Each week one of the second graders is assigned to be the

“Class Star of the Week!”  This entitles them to be the leader of the class for the week, the responsibility of taking care of our class Beanie Baby, Blackie the Bear, and writing in our class journal.  More importantly, the assigned student is able to “Show and Tell” to the class what makes them special, such as things about their family, talents and hobbies.  This gives the class the opportunity to learn more about each other while enhancing their speaking skills, listening skills and how to ask a speaker questions.

Other “Stars of the Week” in our classroom have been Mrs. Froehlich, Sr. Hermann, Mr. Byrkeland, Carol McGreevey, Christy Skilling, Mrs. Roethler and Mrs. Kramer.  We are looking forward to Mr. Froehlich and Mrs. Flaherty visiting us in March.  As we continue to work on these skills, we have learned a lot about each other; but equally important, we learn that you don’t ask a woman her age or her weight!                                                                                                                       Mrs. McGuire

WOULD YOU LIKE TO PAY LESS TUITION?

Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, Bishop Gar-
