Dear Parents,
We are on the last leg of a busy and blessed school year. It has been a year of joys and sadness, of blessings and growth. Students are busy completing activities, taking reading and math tests, running track, playing baseball and softball, and there's always golf. All are looking forward to changes in schedules that summer brings.
We are also beginning the month of May, which is dedicated to our Blessed Mother, Mary, Queen of Peace. It is a time in which we study the mysteries of the rosary and will be praying the rosary at school in our classes. It is our hope that families will take some time to pray the rosary at home remembering to pray for peace in our homes, our school, our country, and within ourselves.

The last day of school for Seton will be Thursday, May 22, 2008. We will dismiss at 11:15am with parish busing at 11:15am. There will be regular busing that morning.
As stated in the April parent letter, requests for student placement are to be turned into the office by May 1, 2008. Please honor this deadline, as we have a great deal of work to do on the placement of our homebases/cores before the end of the year. Thank-you, Thank-you--this past year was the first time that we didn't have to re-do home bases/cores in the fall! What a difference that made for everyone.
The staff and I want to thank you for trusting us to consider the best possible situation for your child(ren) as we form learning groups for next year.
Grandparents' Day will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008. The morning will begin with mass at 8:35am, with grades prep-8, followed by a reception in the Rochleau Center and a tour with grandchildren. This coincides with Grandparents' Day at Bishop Garrigan H.S., which is scheduled to begin with lunch and a program from 11:15am - 1:00pm. Looking forward to seeing many of you.

The eighth graders are in the process of preparing for their end of the year mass to be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at St. Cecelia's. The students have received a letter to take home to parents. If you have not received the letter, please ask your eighth grader.
The fourth graders have been researching planets. They each chose a planet, researched information, and put it all together in a report for reading. Many interesting facts were found on different planets, including size, color, and who discovered it. Later, in science, this information will be useful to students as they study the planets with Mrs. Nelson.
The fourth graders have also been reading some interesting stories this year. One of these stories was called "Into the Sea". It was a story about a sea turtle's life. A couple of students brought photos of turtle eggs and the eggs hatching. The students enjoyed seeing these real life photos. It helped them see how science and reading fit together.
As summer approaches, please encourage your child to continue reading!

Things that will help you with those summer "I'm Bored" feelings that your children may acquire:
Make out a weekly schedule on what you want to accomplish or do (set goals)
Next break down your weekly schedule into a daily one (this does not have to be an hour by hour schedule, but can be broken down as to what needs to be done or what you would like to do in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
Be sure to include daily time for reading (or time that you read to your children) and one-to-one time with each of them also.
Other ideas for your schedule might include swimming, library, baseball/softball, household chores such as vacuuming, doing dishes, making beds; outdoor chores like mowing/raking; taking out the garbage; picking up branches, etc.; family fun day/night, etc.
Get children actively involved with boy/girl clubs, 4-H, YMCA programs, city programs (arts and crafts, swim team, etc.), fishing, hiking, camping, roller-skating, tennis, golf, quilting, knitting, biking, bowling, library reading programs, age appropriate summer jobs.
The possibilities are endless!
